BS-MS (Dual Degree) programme

consists of mandatory, common courses (core courses) for all disciplines during the I and II semester (1st year), a subset of all courses on offer which will enable a student to qualify for a choice of ‘Major’ (called pre-major courses) during the III and IV semesters (2nd year) and departmental courses (professional courses) during the remaining six semesters (3rd year onwards).

First year offers a set of core courses of about 40 credits across disciplines.

Pre-major year has a total of 18/21 credits per semester, with 6/7 credits from each of the chosen pre-major disciplines and 3/4 credits from courses of other departments, as identified by the pre-major department. For remainder of the credits the student will take Open Electives of his choice.

Student can explore courses from a minimum of two disciplines. With careful selection of courses and an academic overload of 1-3 courses, a student can explore up to 3 disciplines during his/her pre-major year.

Third year onwards, students register for professional courses consisting of discipline dependent mandatory and elective courses for 18-22 credits per semester. During the final year, students are required to register for MS thesis with a faculty supervisor, relevant to their major discipline.

In addition to majoring in one of the disciplines, BS-MS students can also minor in another discipline by fulfilling criteria specified by individual departments. The curriculum and other criteria for successfully completing the BS-MS programme in various disciplines are documented in the BS-MS (Dual Degree) Programme Manual.

BS programme in Economic Sciences

for bright and motivated science students who have passed (10+2) with mathematics as one of the subjects. The programme integrates classroom learning with research. The training during the programme enables students to pursue careers in academia, industry or government organizations.

The first year of the programme consists of core courses in basic sciences and introductory courses in Economics. Next three years are dedicated to specialization in Economic Sciences. Students pursuing the BS Programme in Economic Sciences can also earn a ‘minor’ degree in other disciplines after fulfilling the prerequisites laid down by the respective department.

After spending four years in BS programme in Economic Sciences, students have the option to obtain BS-MS (Dual Degree) in Economic Sciences by spending an additional year devoted to courses and research project.

Integrated Ph.D. programme

consists of course work followed by qualifying/comprehensive examination, research work, seminars, and a thesis. Integrated Ph.D. students from all disciplines will have to register for a minimum of 48 course credits and a minimum of 40 research credits. In order to graduate, they should have a total minimum of 128 credits.

Ph.D. programme

consists of course work, qualifying/comprehensive examination, seminars, and a thesis. Ph.D. students will have to register for course work comprising a minimum of 16 to 24 credits and a minimum of 40 research credits. In order to graduate, they should have a total minimum of 96 credits (coursework and research work). Besides the mandatory requirements, students are encouraged to participate in several professional activities such as workshops, review meetings and conferences. All doctoral students are also expected to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme of the Institute as a part of their training. The curriculum and other criteria for successfully completing the Ph.D. programme in various disciplines are documented in the Ph.D. Manual.

As per the directives of MoE, students of all programmes must clear the course entitled "Law Relating to Intellectual Property and Patents", as and when offered, during their course of study.

IISER Bhopal offers four years BS Programme for bright and motivated science students who have passed (10+2) with Mathematics as one of the subjects. MSc

The two years M.Sc. Programme is offered for bright and motivated students with bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline. The programme aims to provide young motivated individuals with a rigorous training, desired level of scientific understanding, and a glimpse of global contemporary research at an early stage to enable them to pursue a career in science education and research. The programme is currently offered in the Departments of Biological Science, Chemistry and Mathematics with a aim to integrate classroom learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The training during the programme enables students to pursue a career in academia, R&D institutes, and science-based industries.

Phd

The Institute offers PhD programmes in several disciplines. A prospective candidate should have completed a postgraduate programme (M.S./M.Sc./M.Tech./MBBS) in a discipline relevant to his/her choice of PhD programme along with qualifying a national entrance exam. Students should have a valid rank in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and/or have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET)/Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR-JRF), University Grants Commission-Junior Research Fellowship (UGC-JRF) or other equivalent examinations.

iPhd

The Institute offers Integrated PhD programme in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. A prospective candidate should have completed a graduate programme (B.Sc./B.Tech./B.E.) in a discipline relevant to his/her choice of Integrated PhD programme. Candidates seeking admission in Mathematics and Chemistry should have a valid JAM score and candidates seeking admission in Physics should have a valid JEST score. All admitted students will receive a fellowship of Rs. 10,000/- per month. Subsequently, upon successful completion of PhD candidacy requirements, a revised fellowship will be provided as per the Ministry of Education (MoE)/norms/guidelines. IISER Bhopal is well equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities matching global standards in all disciplines to facilitate quality research. students must successfully complete course work, qualifying examination, seminars, and a dissertation. Besides the mandatory requirements, students are encourages to participate in several professional activities such as workshops, review meetings and conferences.
